An elderly couple recently reached out to Christians in Action after the wife suffered a fall while heading down the basement stairs to do the laundry. Navigating those steep steps had become an immediate safety hazard, turning a routine chore into a dangerous risk. Making matters even more challenging, her husband suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, adding an extra layer of stress and caretaking responsibility to her daily routine.
Our team went out to assess the home and look for possible solutions. Instead of just adding a handrail or trying to patch up the existing setup, we decided to eliminate the danger entirely. The CIA crew came alongside the couple and moved their washer and dryer up from the basement, reinstalling them in a spare first-floor bedroom.
This move provides lasting safety for her and offers easy accessibility for a daily task that many of us take for granted. By bringing the laundry upstairs, it keeps her safe from another fall and allows her to stay close to her husband, giving the couple a much-needed sense of security and relief.
